Senate inquiry into Inland Rail

Senate inquiry — Management of the Inland Rail project by the Australian Rail Track Corporation and the Commonwealth Government.

On 17 September 2019, the Senate announced an inquiry into various aspects of Inland Rail.

The matter was referred to the Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport References Committee to consider the management of the Inland Rail project by the Australian Rail Track Corporation and the Commonwealth Government.

The Department and the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) are cooperating fully with the inquiry and will support the Committee in its investigations as outlined in the terms of reference. Parliamentary inquiries are an important part of Government business and the Committee is scheduled to report on the outcome of this inquiry by 11 February 2021.

Inland Rail’s design and construction continues while the inquiry in underway. Both the Department and ARTC will continue to work with stakeholders to ensure we are taking community views into account as Inland Rail progresses.

Public submissions to this inquiry closed on 29 November 2019.

The Department and the ARTC appeared before the Senate Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport References Committee public hearing on 13 August 2020.
