Inland Rail begins construction in Victoria

A significant milestone has been reached on the Inland Rail project with construction now underway in Victoria.
The commencement of work on the Tottenham to Albury section means that construction is in progress for 2 of the 3 states along the Inland Rail route.
This first tranche of work in Victoria follows construction in New South Wales including the completion of the Parkes to Narromine section, and the Narrabri to North Star section – which is expected to be finalised shortly.
The Victorian section of Inland Rail will travel on the upgraded North-East Rail Line and includes the enhancement of rail infrastructure to allow for double-stacked freight trains.
McConnell Dowell will construct new bridges, station precincts, undertake track realignment and lowering as part of this first tranche of work at Seymour, Glenrowan, Wangaratta and Barnawartha North.
With construction heating up, local businesses in the region are again encouraged to explore jobs and contract opportunities through the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) to support the delivery of Inland Rail.
Businesses in Victoria are already benefitting from the delivery of Inland Rail with a total of 58 contracts worth more than $269 million for services and the supply of materials to the project.
