Independent Panel of Hydrology experts announced

Monday 29 June 2020

An independent panel of international experts has been appointed to provide advice to the Australian and Queensland governments on the flood modelling of river and floodplain crossings for Inland Rail in Queensland.

Announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack, and Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads Mark Bailey, the Panel will be assessing ARTC’s flood modelling and reference designs – ensuring national guidelines and industry best practice are followed – and providing advice to the Commonwealth and the State.

Building on years of work already conducted by world leading companies such as AECOM, Aureon, Arup Group, SMEC and Water Solutions Pty Ltd, the Panel will provide advice to both governments to assure that the Inland Rail reference designs are fit for purpose and have taken into account local conditions and flood risks.

Reports from the Panel will be published as they are finalised and may be used by the Queensland Coordinator General to inform its assessment and approval of ARTC’s Environmental Impact Statements for Inland Rail in Queensland.
