Design works contractor appointed for Inland Rail in Southern NSW
The Stockinbingal to Parkes (S2P) and Albury to Illabo (A2I) sections of Inland Rail are progressing as the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) has appointed engineering firm, WSP Australia, to deliver the reference and detailed design and accompanying approvals for the projects.
This is a crucial step in progressing these two enhancement projects in Southern NSW.
WSP Australia have extensive experience in major infrastructure design and will now commence the task of developing preliminary proposals for works to be completed as a part of these projects. Under this new contract, WSP Australia will undergo a range of investigations including ecological and geotechnical surveying as well as social impact assessments such as cultural heritage, noise, air quality and utilities.
Over the next few months, ARTC will continue their community consultation on these projects, providing updates and seeking feedback on the proposed designs.
The S2P section of Inland Rail includes the construction of a new crossing loop at Daroobalgie and enhancement works at specific sites along the 173km of existing rail corridor from Stockinbingal to south of Goobang Junction in Parkes to provide the required horizontal and vertical clearances needed to accommodate double stacked container trains.
